In today's society, it is surprising that men still treat women like they are inferior to them. In my photograph, I wanted to show the male dominance over women. To make sure my intention was portrayed in the photograph, I asked a few people what they thought the meaning behind the picture was. Most of the answers I got were around the theme of a protective but abusive relationship between both subjects.

During the process of taking photographs, I explored different lighting setups and design principles. One of the design principles that I focused on was hierarchy; the positioning of the male and the female subjects in the composition show the different sides of being in an unhealthy relationship. During the process, I found that limiting the photograph to the monochromic palette helped emphasize the message of the photograph.
This photograph was shortlisted for the Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award in 2016 in the Photography Category.
